AMERICA is not just a country…

“The only thing new in the world is the history you don’t know.” (Quote by Harry S. Truman)

I couldn’t agree more to this quote because it is absolutely true! Only the past lessons could actually help us to shape our future. We’re living in the world where everyone is interdependent and by learning about America’s history we are not just understanding their successes and failures but we can see how their actions can easily affect us and the world.

The Influential Legacies of Ancient Greece & Ancient Rome

Image result for rome and greece map wallpaper

An American famous poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, once wrote in his poem:

“The Beauty which old Greece or Rome

Sung, painted, wrought, lies close to home.”

(To —-, reported in Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, 10th ed. (1919))

This was definitely true.

Ancient Greece and ancient Rome were both well-known civilizations throughout the world’s history for their exceptional art, knowledgeable philosophers, and powerful economy. Today, people often admired and inspired by their intelligent works and success stories. Yet, what did these two ancient civilizations offer to the modern world that was left unnoticed? The major areas that the ancient Greeks and Romans had contributed to today’s world included language, government, entertainment, and architecture.

Story Synopsis | Creative Writing

After the Khmer New Year break, students were required to come up with a short story synopsis of their experience during that holiday. Below is a synopsis of my story that I got inspired by the water gun game that I played with my friend. Enjoy reading!

—————————————————————————————

In a blink of an eye. Ace Queen’s life turns upside down.

Three days before his sixteen birthdays, Ace is witnessing his own father brutal death by a sinister DARK creature: red eyes, long fangs, and sharp claws. It came as quickly as it disappears; without leaving a single trace. No one else sees. Except for the next thing he knows, frozen icicles are shooting out of his hands toward the wall, where his father corpse is lying next to. Anger turns into fright. Might become no more. And FEAR starts to surge in him.

Goddess Athena | The Pride of Feminism

In my English literacy class, we learned about Greek mythology and how it influenced the modern day. We also had a Greek mythology project that every student need to complete. A student was assigned to a god or a goddess and have to research more closely about that god/goddess and the myth that he/she involved. Below is my research paper about a powerful goddess.

The ancient Greek mythology, that encompassed of many gods and goddesses, was used to reflect on how humans are interacting and behaving in the society. Throughout many of the myths, gods were often depicted to be more powerful and dominant than goddesses; they held powers that were destructive and threatening. Besides, goddesses’ possessed powers that seemed to lean toward family, beauty, and love, like Hera (goddess of marriage) and Aphrodite (goddess of beauty and love) for examples.

Yet, were all the goddesses powerless and ineffective like this in the ancient Greek myth?

Determine Success in Life with IQ or EQ

Here is my quick independent research about IQ and EQ.

I think we all have heard of IQ or Intelligence Quotient or Cognitive Intelligence in which it is a number used to express an individual’s intelligence through a standardized intelligence test. Simply, the IQ test score is calculated by dividing the individual’s mental age (a person’s mental ability) by their chronological age (number of years a person had lived) and multiply by 100. We usually compare the individual’s IQ score in the same age group. Today, the IQ score distribution is roughly normal with the mean around 100 and a standard deviation of 15.

Your IQ score represents your cognitive ability in learning, remembering, problem-solving, and paying attention to something besides your actual knowledge. People with higher IQ tend to be very successful in life.

Still, this is a very narrow path to determine the success in an individual’s life.

Let me ask you these questions:

How do you define “success” in your life?

Is it the fact that you have the ability to accomplish something?

Or is it the relationships that you have with others?

If it is the latter, this is where EQ or Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient comes in. It was defined as the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of yourself. The core idea of EQ is all about understanding your real emotions and being compassionate. You can use your emotions to evaluate other’s emotions, facilitate thinking, and understanding emotional meanings for a strong relationships establishment. Relationships are mostly about “putting yourself in others’ people shoes”. Don’t you agree? Relationships happen everywhere: at home with your family, at school with your friends and teacher, at work with your boss and your coworkers etc. A good relationship is what brings the happiness, love, and success out of you as the driver of your own destiny. This is what EQ is all about.

There is no guarantee that IQ is the only way to determine someone success in life since now that researcher have discovered EQ.

Some people believe that EQ is more important than IQ.

Tell me what are your thoughts about it?
