Training for pitch (ImEx)

On the 23rd October 2016, I went to an event called Startup event at the Emerald+, Phnom Penh International University (PPIU). Basically, the event is about meeting with the Angel Investors and getting feedback from them about our startup project. My group LiGeek (ImEx), went there and we get lots of feedback about our project and the way that we can learn on how to run a business. As I got a lot of helpful advice from them,  I felt like I need to get a step back to learn about how to run business first before I could run a bigger one. A guy named David told us that when he was eleven, he started to sell sweets at his school and that’s how he can learn how to run a business. He told us to sell something to learn about the business. The advice that he gave is strongly hit my soul because of it just a simple idea but have lots of effects.

Beach Clean Up

On the 17th September 2016, I joined the Beach Clean Up event, which is one of the citizen science. Two of our students organized that event to clean Kep’s beach and we worked with MCC to do it. We cleaned two parts of the Kep’s beach, one is at the Chhok village and the other one is at the crab market. Every single trash that we collected, we have to record in our sheets so that we can put that information into the Ocean Conservancy website. Most of the trash that we collected are fishing net, styrofoam, shoes, plastic bags, batteries etc. It was a fantastic experience to be a part of this event, help to clean my country’s beach and be the role model for others.

Cambodia National Pitch Competition

On the 24th April 2016, Technovation Cambodia hosted a National Pitch at CKCC in the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) for all the Technovation Cambodia teams to compete. There are two levels of student to compete which are middle school team and high school team. My team, LiGeek, which created a prototype of an app called “LiGeek” competed at the middle school level. There are four awards such as the popularity which is for the team that gets the most pitch video like on Facebook, 1st place for middle school, 1st place for the high school team, and 2nd place for high school team. Every single team has to prepare a script to talk in front of 300 people to pitch their app to the judges. There are many people that come to join at the event such as, Secretary of Ministry of Education, Director of USAID in Cambodia, and more. My group had practiced many times to do the presentation and we are well prepared for the pitch. There are two groups that from my school and another team is called Libook. I was a bit nervous when we were on the stage talking to 300 people, but I always tell myself to relax and take it easy. After all of the groups get to present their app, it was time for the judges to make the decision who is the winner. After all, the judges decided that our group is the winner of the middle school level. When I heard that I couldn’t even say a single word because I was so happy. We all are really proud of our team because the prize is not just the money but we’re also automatically select to the semi-finalist.

InnoTech Festival

I got an opportunity to participate in an InnoTech festival, which has happened on the 11th February 2016. In that conference, I was presenting about Drone with my three other members. Not just my team from Liger that presented but there’s also other groups that present like Coding. It’s was a great opportunity for me to share what I had learned about Drone to others. While we were presenting, we also put our drone video commercial at the back of us. Below is our drone commercial!

ISPPMUN 2015

On October 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2015 I was participating in the conference called the Model United Nation (MUN) at the International school of Phnom Penh (ISPP). In that conference, I was the delegate of Cuba country in the Junior General Assembly (JGA). The three topics that they focusing on are Gender Equality, Animals Rights, and Protected Marine Life. It was my first time participating in that conference and I had no idea what’s it about. Our facilitator, Jan, helped me and the other students to understand what’s it like by giving us to watch some of the videos about it. Before we got to that conference, we have to prepare resolutions for the three topics and an opening speech. As it was the first time for everyone to participate in that conference, our facilitator told us to focus only on one topic. So, we have to do research about the country that we represent on that topic(s). When I was at the conference, I was kind of nervous and excited though because there are lots of students from many different schools participating and mostly English is their first language. For all of the three days, I’m not really participate in that conference, I’m just really observing around and see what it’s like. It’s really challenging for to be around with lots of people that I don’t know. Some of the days, it’s kind of fun, for example, when the chairs said that laughing is not in order but the chairs also laugh. I hope to join that conference again next year….!
